Honest George Holloway - 'that notorious fellow'

George Holloway always and unambiguously, ‘agin’ the consequences of inequality in the distribution of power of influence and a culture based on a set of values that relied on deference to that power, and which looked to squash firmly – and even sometimes brutally – any attempt to resist those pressures. He loathed and passionately scorned what he characterised as the ‘bigwigs’ and the string pullers, both of the town and of the nation.

This book is an attempt to understand how a man like Holloway came to acquire a set of values at odds with those of his class and time, and how pursuing those values shaped his life and drove his impact on his hometown

Michael Loftus has lived in Kidderminster for nearly forty years.

The history of the town through the huge changes of the nineteenth century fascinates him.

This is the story of one man who shaped and was shaped by that history.
